Just found your great site. I saw Zappa in London several times and he was so tight I was just blown away. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it before or since. And to this day I still harbour a secret crush on Eddie Jobson and his perspex violin. Later saw him do the Joe's Garage set - another special night. I am now a school teacher and often bring in a bit of Frank to play to the kids - Peaches en Regalia goes down a storm with them!

What or what,I have just come back from a holiday in Los Angeles and all the time the lyrics from "just another band from LA", an album I bought back in the seventies kept on springing up as my wife and I drove around in our hire car "jack in the box" "Downey" etc. Sadly missed, a true genius.

Frank Zappa only came to Australia once and I missed the concerts here. I've never seen him live. When I'm not blown out by his music, it's when I'm blown out listening to his lyrics. I can't listen to much modern music without thinking that if Frank was playing it, he would have done it better. I miss you Frank. You are the greatest!

Wild site!! I always loved Frank's Wacko And incredibly avante-guard music. He is rivalled perhaps only by Pink Floyd in this respect in the music business. Actually, I may have actually given Frank his first and/or only AM radio play back in 1968 when I played "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" on hick radio station KARS in Belen, New Mexico as part of a local high school football varsity club takover of that station. I'm sure the station manager heard about that one! And I'm proud I did it. Hail Frank! Terry H.

As long as he lived, I listened to his music. Our world these days was divided into two parts. The ones who listened to Zappa and the others who listened to Genesis ;-). One of his best Band was the one with Ruth and Ian Underwood, Napoleon Murphy Brock, George Duke and the Fowler Brothers. Which mad man (or woman) writes all those midi files we can listen to? Never got to see the great man live. he came to OZ in about 1974 and gave an interview to Gary Macdonald. (aka Norman Gunston) As Gunston, Macdonald did an impersonation of a bizarre reporter who used to piss everyone off. Fortunately, Zappa heard of macdonalds ability as a harmonica player. He granted Macdonald an interview and also jammed with him. I've watched that memorial jam time and again. Zappa is still the greatest muso/composer/guitarist thjat has ever lived. I believe the most apt title I've heard him referred to is "The muso's muso" Anyone worth their salt knows and nearly understands the genius of the man.

"It look's just like a Telefunken U-47," with albums like "Joe's Garage," "Thing Fish," "Broadway The Hardway" "The Man From Utopia," and "Jazz From Hell;" (not to mention many, many more). Frank forever changed the way I look at the world and music. Very few artist have left such an impact as Frank has. And though I never had the pleasure of attending a sigle "Zappa Concert;" and regret having missed a rare opportunity to meet the man and have a copy of his autobiography signed. Let me state for the record that he was, is, and always will be a hero of mine. Can't believe that it's been almost ten years since he's been gone. But his music, killer sense of humor and cynicism has truly become a way of life. Just so wonderful to read all the stories and see all the pages like this one, that keep his memory alive, good job. I love you Frank, you were turly a genius and you are greatly missed.......Good Nite Mr Zappa, Where Ever You Are.

If you love Zappa and are based in the UK you might be interested in this: John Etheridge With The Zappatistas Venue: The Zodiac, Cowley Road, Oxford Time: 8pm Tickets: £10 (£9 in advance) Bookings: (T): 0870 7500659 (W): www.ocmevents.org (on-line booking service) "Up until now most Zappa-meets-jazz revivals have foundered either because the tunes have intricate structures that mitigate against free-blowing improvisation, or because the musicians lack the in-your-face musical anarchy and tongue-in-cheek humour of Zappa himself." The Times Former Soft Machine guitarist John Etheridge started The Zappatistas after receiving a commission from Nottinghamshire County Council to put together a one-off performance at the Newark festival in October 1998, enthused by the success of their debut the eight-piece went on to tour extensively at the end of 1999 and continued to do so for the last couple of years. Prior to the Zappatista John Etheridge appeared with many of the great players of the Jazz world including celebrated Jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and Dizzy Gillespie he also leant his unique talent to John Williams and Nigel Kennedy. For those unfamiliar with the great Frank Zappas work the Zappatistas could hardly provide a better introduction, The night promises to pay homage to his audacious eclecticism and as the band are rumoured to be one of the loudest currently on the circuit: tonight is not recommended to the faint hearted! "If John Etheridge weren't so brilliant he might be more famous." The Observer

At the age of 14, it was the first time I bought tickets to see the Mothers of Invention at the Fillmore East in NYC. Walking back to the subway station, my buddie and I were mugged for our tickets but we finally got to see the great master at a subsiquent "Mothers Day" concert and for many years I was a regular attender. Even as a youngster it was clear to me that although he was always joking on stage he was the most serious of artists, I admired his integrity and I always found it easy to forgive his supraficial vulgarity. Zappa's art cannot be defined by our present system and for this he stands alone and cannot be copied, but I have often heard others musically quote him. I love so much of his music but my sentimental favorites are the ground breaking "Hot Rats" and the musical poem, "Burnt Wheeny" with "Little House I Used To Live In". If I could make an artistic comparison to his music, I would liken some of his work to a Salvadore Dali' painting. A beautiful landscape with a superimposed distorted sexual organ.

Back in '79 I asked my parents if I could get "Live In New York" for my Christmas and very kindly they obliged. However, after the festivities were over my father took me aside and told me in no uncertain terms that I was never to ask my mother to buy me an album "like that" again. I don't know if it was "Titties 'n' Beer", "The Illinois Enema Bandit" or more likey "I Promise Not To Come In Your Mouth" that provoked this rebuke, but I guess I should have known better. Loved the site and the photographs - wish I'd seen Frank live, sure as hell too late now.

In november 1971 I saw "The Mothers" in the "Deutschlandhalle" in Westberlin. It was the first time and I never forget the impression. The band came directly from Scandinavia and a snowstorm hindered the trucks on the way through the twilight-zone called East-Germany. We, my brother Martin and me, were waiting till ten o'clock and nobody knew, if Zappa would play or not. Suddenly the doors of the hall opened and the organizer presented a local band, but nobody wanted to hear. After an hour the stage was vacant again. No equipment, no Zappa. But - realize it, folks - the crowd was still quiet. Everybody felt, Frank and "The Mothers" would play. We sat on the floor, smoked some ... and the vibrations were peaceful. Nobody was drunken or aggressiv like the teens and twens today. Alcohol was out at that time!!! The power was the rest of the people. But than - a box were rolling through the curtian behind the stage, and half an hour later the concert started. Frank and the Mothers were terrific and we had a wonderful night. Thirty years are gone since that time, and Zappa is still alive in my heart. Greetings to all Zappa-friends Richard Siffliss

What to say? I live in Cuba, I'm Dutch and listening to his records here or in Cuba, what a pity that this genius died so early. Enough moments still to feel sad, here or there. Suzy? Suzy Creamcheese? Frank Zappa used weird as a gage of his talent. I believe he felt that if he was good enough people would accept the bizarre nature of his work. He constantly pushed the envelope to find the limit of what people would accept and thus define the limit of his talent.

I had never heard of Frank and the mothers till 1995 withs means i never had the chance to hear him live, but still today him is one of my biggest idols and i keep discovering new material. He is one of the few great humorist of his generation, where it was in fasion to be serius and political. Franks lyrics had a political contence but still he succeded in not being as preaching as many of the co-existing bands and artists. His ironi towards himself, the time he live in and the mesages sent, showed his insight in the fact that times changes. New values are being deffined all the time, don´t get to hooked up on anything just role with the punches and remember be good to ech other. In a time of ironi I am only waiting for other young peoble to help me give Frank a giant revivel all over the world. They only have to open their minds to his humor, ironi, music and great guitar. I´m a music lover, my age, 37 years, Music has always been sorrounding me, two or three years ago I was really getting tired of hearing the British & American rock known scene, just conditioned myself to Radio, not to select music, but in my deep soul I was searching and looking for something new, oh yeah, faith no More was good but it didn´t last much, and the national production here in Chile is not long lasting qualitity stuff, so one day i went to a store and found this guy Zappa and saw this album hot Rats wich had been once in my hands and head, I still remembered some of those solos, but at that time I loved Beatles. I took it home, looks look i´m selling something, but it´s just happiness, once again music is a Strong force, and once again i feel it part of my life, mine, and it´s Zappa´s Music. Saw "the indian of the group" last night with the Muffin Men, is it me or him that never understood Frank or his music? Can't blame him for being bitter, every employee ends up resenting his boss, but I think that it is somewhat ingenuous of him to keep slagging Frank after so many years.

What can I say? He is the Man Since I first listened to Frank in 1976 he has remained and always will my favourite musician, song writer and if I had not been so drug fucked I would definitely gone to see him at least once in the eight visits he made to OZ. But I did'nt, my loss. One of my regular pastimes is identifying current pieces of music that I believe are influenced by Frank. Hundreds of them. It drives my daughter and wife crazy. They refuse to listen to him. Their loss. I really enjoy fell frank freaks, there is always much smiles and laughter. Thats how he makes me feel and I'm so grateful that I was alive when he was and can remember when a new album came out the anticipation my friends and I had. We were never let down. Much respect

I have about 30 of his albums, my first one was 'We're Only In It For The Money" my friend Mark and I brought it to 7th grade music class-the teacher listened to about 30 seconds of "Nasal Retentive Calliope Music" and pulled the plug on it, saying 'Thats NOT music' LOL! I saw him about 5 or 6 times, every one was an excellent concert. God Bless, RIP FZ

Out of any actors or musicians that I would have wanted to meet..........you are the only one that I cared to, tho I never did. It broke my heart when you passed. At 50, I enjoy your music as much as when I was twenty. I'm sure that when the creator tried to hand you a harp, you burped or farted and then humbly asked for your guitar.......which I am sure he gave you.

I have been listening to ZAPPA since 1969. All other music is boring by comparison. Ijust hope that one day he will get the recognition that he deserves.....THE GREATEST COMPOSER YOU NEVER HEARD IN YOUR LIFE.....I have been thinking over the years, that this man is so intelligent that he is either from GOD or the DEVIL.I have come to the conclusion that HE IS GOD. That's about time- a Frank Zappa guestbook! I suppose there are lots of'em, but I've never actually found one- until now. I've been a great admirer of Frank Zappas music a couple of years now, and my favourite albums so far are "Overnite sensation", "another band from L.A", "hot rats", "them or us", "sheik yerbouti", "we're only in it for the money", and the brilliant "one size fits all". There\s one thing I cannot forgive myself- I never went to a Zappa concert. It makes me furious and utterly insade from time to time when I think about it. Looking forward to hear the unreleased material, though!

Whenever I'm feeling a bit down or a bit legless (they often occur simultaneously) I'll bung on Inca Roads, Easter Hay or Yo Mama and a big smile will spread slowly across my face. I often play Zappa CDs at work, too, and it's good to see his music still has an effect on young people. They'll come in and say "what the fuck is that?" Some things never change.

We have a great site in The Memorial Photo's site. Try vinylzappa.com also. If I can just get my server to get working on it. Like I've told them a thousand times to change the spelling of, Oh never mind see you there. The photo's here show the energy of his concerts. Zappas animated movements were weird to say the least. I saw him end a show at the Hammersmith Odeon, London by bringing his arms down into a box shape-like stuffing the audience into a box-down and down then finally as the band end a descending crascendo-he kicks it out-needless to say we went wild. Love your music Frank-we'll never forget you.

You can find a whole bunch of Bogus Pomp's live recordings on Napster. There are several tunes with Napoleon Murphy Brock including Cheepnis, Idiot Bastard Son, Evil Prince, and Montana. (More on the way) Lot's of other good stuff with great solos all over the place. This is priceless that someone would create a website for the ultimate musical genius of our time. I miss this guy almost as much as my dad and son. How is it that this guy can be this creative? I am sure he is pleased that his music never became commercialized. I know I am. I am from Canada but would love to have him as my prime minister. I saw him once at St. Alphonsos pancake breakfast.

Hey guys, you're talking about Frank Zappa. He wasn't christ. He was a performer, an artist, a composer. Not a god. He went to the toilet just like everyone of us and occasionally pierced the toilet- paper with his finger, just like us.

I saw Frank At Vets Memorial in columbus ohio 1988. I was 17 years old ,too young to register to vote at the show. I was blown away by the performance,George Dukes'voice and the puppets that came out for "Louisiana Hookers from Hell" as an avid music fan of all genres, I will say ;I am still searching for what I felt at that very show. I haven't experienced anything like it since.

I only started listening to Frank's music in Nov 1995 and I feel I have missed out on so much. I would have loved dearly to have seen him in concert but that was not to be. Since then I've bought about 30 of his albums and listen to them every day. I'm still discovering new stuff but sometimes I feel sad because I know that he's not here creating his strange and beautiful music. Franks music is like no other and I love it to bits. Moooaaaa!!!

at 17 flew to NY to see frank with the original Mothers(1970)sat by the door and listened to the rehersal- way cool. Saw frank at his last show(in Det.)- was impressed with the fact that he would write a piece of very complex unison lines with breaks just so napoleon could squeeze a variety of squeezer toys-a different toy for each break. who else would do that.Every time i listen to rite of spring or petruska i hear Absolutely Free-

Reading this page, I was moved by some kind words toward our ensemble, Bogus Pomp. We are all greatly impacted by Frank's work and have seen that we are certainly not alone. First the Florida Orchestra (1999 and 2000) and now the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (3/24/00) are staging all Zappa programs with orchestral and electric band sets. We are seeing a great deal of new and renewed interest in Zappa's music and this is encouraging. We hope to continue studying and learning more of Frank's catalog and playing for anyone who wants to listen. Napoleon's involvement has been a real learning experience and working with him leaves no doubt of Frank's lasting effect on him. We hope more orchestras will consider this type of program. Dr. Jim Borders made the comment, at the symposium prior to the last Fl. Orch. show, that "The definitve versions these [orchestral] works have yet to be performed". That being the case, I can only imagine what the definitive version would be since they were played beautifully the following night. Who knows, if this keeps up, maybe they'll run Baby Snakes on the Bravo Channel......The Modern Day Composer wasn't kidding.

I'm only 17, and regrettably, never got to see him in concert, due to the fact that my interest in his music did not spawn until about 1994. My dad saw him in concert twice, the lucky guy. One of the most refreshing things about Frank is that there is proof that his music will live on. My 11 year old son absolutely loves all of the Zappa music that his parents feel is appropriate for him to hear. There is just a little censored, but he knows good stuff when he hears it.

FRANK ZAPPA in chicago at a place called rush up. he was with his band.iwent there particularly to meet the legend.[overnite sensation--tag in underwear] i found that frank zappa was down to earth, intellegent, very personable[to me], kind and very generous. it was a tragedy and a great loss when the man left us. ill never forget the greatest guitarist [i mean by far the greatest] that ever lived or probably will. i went to 23 concerts[loved them all] and allways looked forward for the happening. miss your humor and brilliant talants.

Frank Zappa was introduce to me back in the 7os when I was in grade school. Thank goodness my older sister had great taste in music. We (my daughter and I) have seen him performing two times. (highlights of these years). Today I enjoy his music even more as I did it many years ago. His text & music is always a fantastic combination.

There are those who had the pleasure of living during the time if Bach, others the time of Vivaldi, I'm happy to say that I had the pleasure of living during the time of Frank Zappa. I only hope that future generations will have the pleasure of finding his contributions to this planet.

Sadly I missed his concert scene alltogether. I am sickened by this fact nightly. I am sincerely sorry for the familys loss. The world is not the same when your hero's are gone. My greatest sorrow is in being unable to ever hear him play live and in the same room......When videos are available I am sure to feel better .................................. For me and all other FZ fans, FZ was a musical genius who wrote songs to take the mickey out of someone or something and for his own pleasure and ours too. Not all songs were aimed this way and the ones which were'nt were just as good. He was a truly great guitar player and a very blessed songwriter and musician. R.I.P Frank....... You are sorely missed.

I saw Frank Zappa when I was 19. I was always impressed with his music, especially his guitar work. He was so under-rated as a guitar player! Merry Christmas to all who are reading this.

I have always enjoyed Zappa's music and always will. I was lucky enough to see him in concert twice in the 70's. It was fabulous as it should have been. He was a musical genius with a killer sense of humor and I loved his cynicisim too. If you want to talk Zappa just e-mail me. Ozma
