I was once a devoted fan of Frank's. His sarcasm saved
me from taking myself to seriously as a teenager. Unfortunately,
Frank never seemed to grow up and never produced anything one
could call a mature work. He could play a phenomenal guitar solo
when he was hot!! I miss you Frank. You were a big part of my
life once. Requescat in pace.

I was introduced to Frank's music by having 3 older
brothers that were really into his music. By the time I reached
high school age, I had completely surrendered! One of my brothers
and I took a long road trip and sang Zappa tunes the whole way
instead of listening to our 8-track!ha I still remember those
songs. We had a friend that even looked alot like Frank and he
could really do a great impersonation and sing along. Now my 16
year old daughter has grown up listening to Zappa tunes and the
beat goes on. Getting to see the new show by his boys is really a
treat. They are great and talented as their father. Frank has
made a difference in this world and his music is as important to
our society as a whole; just like Bach or Beethoven created great
masterpieces, so has Frank Zappa! I also think he would really
get a kick out of Jerry Springer and Gwar and Marilyn Manson and
say more power to them if anyone will listen! TURN ON THE BUBBLE
MACHINE!!!!

Saw Frank and his band at an ice skating arena where
the Boston Bruins attempted to practice hockey. Frank was very
amused when all of the wasted folks in the crowd decided to hang
from the rafters and cause a small riot outside the place in this
small subruban town. A very large keg party ensued following the
concert but Frank never showed. I geuss he was going back to his
little apartment to have a little party... in leather. The show
was very entertianing.

However corny this may sound,Frank Zappa was the
influence that made me look upon all music with a maturity I
never expected of myself.I feel I owe him something and I can
only imagine that truly great minds can make anyone feel like
that.Yeah,I sound like a twat.Zappa also enables me to say shit
about myself and laugh at myself for doing so.I hope he returns
from the dead 31st.Dec.1999.Cheers,mate!!!

His ecletic genious for mixing seemingly disparate
musical forms from avant gard of Vares, and a tonality of Webern
to the rhythmic complexity of Bartok, to the simplist pop tunes-
but perhaps not so simple in Frank's case - was both beyond
description while still being communicative.

I'm a drummer (on a good day), and I learned playing to
Frank's time. In other words...you can't dance to the beat of my
drums without looking a little crazy! My favorite quote of Zappa
is..."jazz isn't dead it just smells funny." I get alot
of comments on the shirt I made with Zappa's goat and this quote.
Think you're doing a great job of keeping Frank in the minds of
us all.

Great Googley Moogly! What can I say about the greatest
American Composer that ever lived! The greatest known composer in
my galaxy and yours? One of the most versatile musicians ever to
grace the planet earth. And a sesquipedalian to rival even me.
(Yes I have a rather large head.) Any thoughts as to why he and
Jerry Garcia and he never played together, or am I missing
something entirely? Perhaps the universe would have folded into a
vaccuum with that much talent together? Perhaps the great
prestidigitators are grooving somewhere right now as we click and
clack on our little keyboards.

perkele..first time i heard fz was three years ago and I
just thought who is this guy and listened some more... fuck HIS
music nailed me, totally fucking totally. He made music for
himself, he didn`t compromise, he kept his unique style and he
was so genuine and it`s my misery that I didn`t see or hear him
live. Some finish words.. Frank Zappa on aidoin asia mihim olen
törmännyt koskaan. Mä tiedän että tämä mies ja hänen
musiikkinsa on mun listalla ykkösenä vielä pitkään. Vaikea
kuvailla ajatuksia Zapasta, mutta musta tuntuu, että Frank on
paras. kiitos.

Frank turn my musical word on its ass, he always keeps me
guessing. It kills me that so few people I know, none come to
think of it, like zappa the way I do. I get the people that say

ahhhhh! I've come to terms with it at long last. zappa takes up
far more space in my disc thing then any other one artist, I'm a

My sister was going to buy Freak Out for me, but I got
impatient waiting for the princess bitch and bought it myself,
and, briefly, had two copies. It was the only M.O.I. album at the
time, and of course I had it in monoaural. (For those
brown-diapered preppies who don't remember phonograph records,
consider monoaural (a misnomer, it was really monophonic) and
stero! People stopped admitting to knowing me after that. It's
hard to believe that some people in the shadow of the Birch
Society were even listening to Van Vliet. In San Marino, liking
Capt. B'heart was grounds for being 5150'd, aka, 1st step towards
being declared clinically insane. But, I don't give a shit. I
STILL think that Return of the Son of Monster Magnet IS a bright,
snappy number! HOT-CHA! Going to the 1st UCLA Paul-Pav concert,
there was gnarly graffic on the Santa Monica Fwy. near the Harbor
(so what else is new?) and I got out and jogged until the car
caught up to me. How typical for a freak. It was never the same
after Verve. What comfort that the Mothers are still on C.D., in
Japan, etc., and that freaks and assholes are inheriting the
earth, again.

Frank's music has been the giddy soundtrack for my life for
only eight years or so, As a musician I am floored by his
intricate rock and roll melodies and his potent stew of music
genres, and his zest for the absurd. This is Fresh counterpoint
to the mainstream music current, which tends toward the
self-important. His irreverent and articulate approach to all of
life's challenges, however mundane or far-reaching, entertains
and excites, bringing smiles to all. Es lebe Frank Zappas Musik!

This is a nice page, however, I think that it would be at
least thrice as good if you included transcriptions of songs, as
well as ideals and the theory of frank zappas music. Many people
know who he his, and that he is sort of a wierd guy. However,
they dont all understand how seriouse his music is. For example,
the songs are usually very humerouse but not because they are
strange funny stuff, they are satirical and they all convey a
message or idea held by frank. Also, with this view of
strangeness in his music they actual music theory usually is
ignored. This is a same and every zappa fan should do everything
he or she can to help educate the misunderstanding. Saying that
zappa is a genius is a severe understatement. He is easily as
great as mozart was in his own time. His knowledge of chords,
classical as well as contemporary background, and soloing is
extraordinary to say the least. He is can not be compared to any
other musician that we have ever known in our time. He is so far
ahead of pop cultural icons, popular musicians, and even
virtuosic musicians in the 20th centuries.

Hello folks, being a fan since 1969,I appreciate these
photos a lot. They remind me of those we took in Germany sometime
around 1976, I KNOW THIS OUTFIT.... There are 3 konds of music
that influenced me above all others: 1. of course the FAB FOUR,
2. Frank 3. Wishbone Ash Whenever I listen nowadays to Frank's
songs I am very sad in some way, feeling left alone. John has
gone, Frank is away, the only thing that keeps me going is that
Andy Powell still has gathered some lads around him, next ASHCON
date in OBERHAUSEN Germany, 27th March 1999. The actual reason
why I am writing to you is: Can you give me some www. address
that is kind of the ultimate FZ site in the web. I do hope you
can help me and prevent me from wasting my time. Pyjama people do
it often enough and I rather put my girl friend in a coma....
with some dirty love. Allright?? Then let's get along with some
circon-encrusted tweezers and ride into the dawn of Montana .
Cheers Denmark folks, whereever you are

MY COUSIN FROM DENMARK TURNED ME ON TO ZOOT ALLURES. WHEN I HEARD
'WIND UP WORKING IN A GAS STATION' I WAS HOOKED. SOUNDED LIKE
FRANKIE VALLI ON AN ACID TRIP. I JUST COULD NOT STOP LISTENING TO
THAT MUSIC. BUT MY FONDEST MEMORIES WERE THE JOE'S GARAGE ALBUMS.
TO THIS DAY I STILL LISTEN TO THEM IN TOTAL AMAZEMENT NOT JUST
MUSICALLY BUT IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION. THE SOUND STILL KICKS ASS.

Hi everybody! The pages are great. I esp. like all the
midi-music. Those melodies are soooo great. FZ was / is a much
too neglected artist. Hwew in this country he's even almost
censored and never played on either public or commercial
radiostations. But it seems that a lot of people buy his music
anyway, because most recordshops have his records. I started
listening to FZ in '76 when I was 17 (OSFA, Apostr., JABFLA) and
it really was like a revalation. I only got to see him once, it
was in 1982 in Brøndby Hallen near Copenhagen, an awful place,
from where I sat you coldn't hear anything, the place is really
build for icehockey-games and not music - but friends told me
that the music was fantastic - they were sitting a lot closer to
the stage. During the late ´8+s my interest in FZ grew, esp.
after reading his book (The Real FZ book). And now, well I just
miss him. It's true what others have said, that his spirit is
much needed. But well... Frank I believe you are the greates
composer in the last two centuries! You were great, funny and
right!

I have been a pro player for 25 plus years playing rock,
jazz,R&B,blah blah...and have always been amazed how Zappa
could come up with such clever musical ideas, write them down and
find players to perform it! The dues he has paid alone are worth

believe that he would have become Jesse "the Body"

I've been listening to Frank for 30 years. He, in my
opinion, is by far the best musician/guitar player to date. After
seeing him 15+ times in concert, there is nothing to compare. I'm
glad his music is still being released. I have all of his music
and even some by bands that he produced, like Grand Funk Railroad
(released 1976)on vinyl and am currently in the process of buying
all the CD's of his music I can lay my hands on. I was glad to
find that this is not only possible but, there is apparently more
available in this format. Frank is one of the few people I really

First of all I have to say that it was great to watch all
the pictures from the 70s. It is just to say that one genius died

Well first I would like to say that not only is Frank Zappa
awsome, he's my hero. I really don't understand why people didn't
really appreatiate his music till after he Pasted. He had (and
still does have) many fans, but he wasn't as popular then as he
is now. I know that some people still think of him as a stupid
freak, but look at me I'm just as weird as him and people don't
call me a stupid freak. I think that Frank Zappa is the most
coolest person and I just want to know that I'm a truthful and

I cant help but wonder who will ever fill Franks shoes. I
refuse to believe that his spirit is gone. I have listen to the
technical mastery of Mike Keneally and sat in awe as he cranked
out unbelievable riffs that so reminded me of frank (see him if
you can) but truthfully, NOBODY has yet to come near the creative
genius that frank was. ... as for Frank, I know he's in the
control room now, listening to everything I say.... helloooooo

complete control over it. Thank you for showing me what real
music is.

If there is a heaven, then that is where Frank is now. If
there is a god then he probably got his hands full after Frank
arrived.

I first hear frank on a late night radio show on the local
radio station. i heard Titties and Beer, the version thats on
Live in New York and i laughed for so long. after that i bought
13 of his cd's gradually and now i have about 20. its strange
that a musician that has been so influential in my life died 2
years before i'd ever hear of him. Frank was a truely great man
and may his legacy live on forever

To Gail and the kids, Thank-you for the opportunity to
write my thoughts concerning Frank. First of all I miss him, as
of course you all do. There seems to be an empty place in music
since his departure. But thanks to you and Rykodisc he will
always be with us in the best of ways, his music. His memory will
always be there to enrich others and bring a smile to otherwise
frowning faces. I could express alot more thoughts, however I'm
sure you get enough mail that you have to deal with. So in
closing I wish you all the best, and hope that you continue to
allow us to enjoy the man and his music. Doc Glynn P.S. It would
be nice to have more access to Dweezil and Ahmet's music. I'm
afraid it's hard to find here.

Gee, if anybody's got a scanned pic of Frank Zappa from his
appearance on 'The Monkees', I'd love to see it! Maybe even
feature it in my Tube Stakes page of the Tubeworld Dynamic in the
'Caught In The Act of Being Themselves' episode. Thanks! Toby

Hey I'm very impressed with the site...I like the
background pictures - a lot. However, because the pictures are
unofficial and - obviously - not taken by a professional, they
give a really nice site - a kind of amateur look to it. And
that's too bad, cause I can see that you have put a lot of work
into this thing. Being a big FZ myself, I'm impressed with all
the things that you've managed to cram into this site. Jazz izn't
dead. It just smells funny. - FZ Hyg jer :-)

I first saw Frank in Portland, Oregon at Lewis & Clark
College doing Chungas Revenge about 1970ish. I had copies of
Freak Out and We're Only In It For The Money but was unprepared
for what I saw live!! I was hooked and never looked back. I was
fortunate to have seen Frank about a dozen times. I miss him a
lot.

My first contact with FZ occured when i found a copy of
Lumpy Gravy in a bin at the Parma Public library in Parma,Ohio.
You'd have to know parma to realize what a miracle it was that
this album was there to begin with. I was about eleven at the
time and i remember looking at the sleeve and wondering,"who
is this wierd looking man?." i took the album home and
played it on my low-fi. it was a revelation and the music
became, for me, A WAY OF LIFE. Thanks Frank!

Many thanks for remembering Frank. I miss him and his sharp
wit. He is somebody that my soon to be 4 year old son will know
about. Frank was an American original that unfortunately
American's misunderstood. I unfortunately was in the Navy during
his last tour and missed the East coast segment. I was stationed
in Oakland, CA. I wish I could see him at the Paladium in NY
during Halloween again. I am a fan forever.

suggest you pick up a copy of, The Best Band You've Never Heard

Wazoo, Burnt Weeny Sanwich and WAKA JAWAKA. They should be
required listening for any Jazz lovers. I believe he like jazz

FZ is one of the 5 best musicians ever to have lived . I
should know , I am now 18 yrs old and my life has been dedicated
to music since I was 7 yrs . I believe that in a 100 yrs from now
, when the music historicicans look back to the 20th century ,
they'll think for a fact that FZ is THE ONE . Remember , they
didn't appreciate J.S.Bach till 150 yrs after his death .
